Saturday 31 October at SKW has a whole village built for the small people, with jumping castles, face paint, sand art and a pack of treats for every child, all of it supervised while you enjoy the tent. Here is what every parent needs to know, in seven easy steps.
This amazing village is sponsored by Bakers, Made with Love.
All children from age 3 up to 12 years of age enter free of charge.
Oktoberfest is a family day and always has been. The Kiddies Village is where the children's part of it happens: their own corner of the festival, packed with things to do and run by people whose job for the day is to make sure they have a brilliant time – Made with Love You get the Kirchdorfer, the Festbier and the Schuhplattler. They get jumping castles, painted faces and a pack of treats each. Everybody comes home with a story.

The Kiddies Village opens on Saturday 31 October at ten in the morning and runs until six. Those hours are firm at both ends, so build your day around them: arrive after ten, collect before six. There is no Village on the Friday, so Saturday is the day the whole family comes.

The Village is for children from three to twelve, in two groups so everyone plays with children their own age: toddlers from three to five in one area, school-age children from six to twelve in the other. The little ones get a gentler pace and the bigger ones get to go full tilt. Younger than three or older than twelve, they spend the day with you.

Every child in the Village wears a wristband and every wristband comes with an indemnity form signed by a parent. That is how the team knows exactly who each child is and who to call for them. Sign the form, get the wristband on their arm and they are through and off.

Jumping castles and not just one. Face paint for anyone who wants to spend the afternoon as a tiger. Sand art, an art area with everything they need to make something worth keeping and play zones where they can run until they are done. This is not a corner with a few toys. It is a full day of entertainment built for children and it runs from the moment they arrive to the moment you collect them. Pack a spare T-shirt, because they are coming out painted, sandy and delighted.

The play zones are supervised all day and split by age, so the toddlers have their own minders and the bigger kids have theirs. When someone has jumped enough, there are dedicated seating and relaxation areas inside the Village where they can sit down, cool off and catch their breath before the next round. From ten to six, someone is looking after them.

Every child gets a kiddies pack with child-friendly refreshments and treats, so nobody has to trek back to the food stalls every time someone announces they are hungry. It is hot in October and a child on a jumping castle is working hard, so put sunblock on before they go in and send them in with a hat.

With the children sorted, the afternoon is yours: the Kirchdorfer, the Bierkönigin, a Maß and a Brezel and a few thousand people in Lederhosen and Dirndls. Agree with the kids where you will be, check in now and again and be back at the Village before six. The ride home is already sorted, because whoever drives is the one who has not had a beer.
See you on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October at Sport Klub Windhoek.
